February 2006 STAR of the Month

When the Human Resources Department switched the entire Human Resources Management System (HRMS) to PeopleSoft in 2003, Kamyar Marashi, February STAR, was put in charge of all security issues involving E-TRAC (employee transaction systems) and HRMS-related modules. Marashi, an information technology consultant for Human Resources and Safety & Risk Management, was up to the monumental task.

The security issues were an important, complex part of the change to PeopleSoft because of the sensitivity of the information involved. Marashi handled the project adeptly and presented on his approach at two national professional organization conferences.

"Kamyar performs his duties with a unique sense of humor, personality and approach," said Henry McCoy, manager of faculty personnel and human resources information systems. "He has established strong working relationships with the many users across campus with whom he interacts."

Judy Philip, a coworker, said Marashi is the "social butterfly" of the office.

Marashi confirmed that he enjoys the social aspect of his work.

"To be able to collaborate and work with such intelligent and talented people is great," Marashi said. "The people I work with really genuinely care about what they do."

While taking classes through the College of Extended Learning, a benefit from his previous job at MusicBank.com, Marashi decided to pursue a career in higher education. He was able to leave the dot-com world behind when he landed the position in Human Resources in December 2000.

Marashi plans to complete a bachelor's degree in speech and communications in 2007 and continue his studies at SFSU through a graduate program in organizational and/or business communications.

He resides in Novato with his wife, Heather, and daughter, Lelia.

Please join us in congratulating Kamyar and thank him for making such a difference.

As the STAR of the Month, Marashi will enjoy four free lunches on campus, a free parking pass or equivalent in one month's public transportation costs, and more.
