Sophia Hutson
Sophia Hutson, academic administrative analyst coordinator for the College of Science and Engineering, is the STAR of the Month for May.

"Sophia's work involves extensive and close interaction with faculty, staff and students in the college," said Sung Hu, interim associate dean of the College of Science and Engineering. "She not only does her work exceedingly well, she is also extremely helpful and friendly with people. I have heard many good comments about her."

Hutson assists the College's 15 administrative analysts and administrative assistants/coordinators in meeting various academic program deadlines and supervising the College's year-round academic schedule production.

"Sophia is very intelligent and learns new things quickly," Hu added. "She is also quite willing to share her knowledge and skills with others."

A native San Franciscan, Hutson transferred to SFSU after three semesters at the University of California, Berkeley. She graduated from the University in 1981 with a degree in information systems and business analysis.

During her senior year, Hutson worked full time in the J. Paul Leonard Library. She went on to work for the Human Resources Department and later as executive secretary for the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Hutson is also a calligraphy enthusiast. She freelances and is part of the education committee of the Association for the Calligraphic Arts, an organization work-ing to bring calligraphy to K-12 classrooms. She plans to introduce the project to West Portal Lutheran School, where her 7-year-old son attends, as a summer program. Her daughter will attend San Jose State in the fall.

Hutson is also a member of the Working Mothers Marketing Advisory Council and is a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

Please join us in congratulating Sophia and thank her for making such a difference.
