June 2002 STAR of the Month

Armando Gonzales
Armando Gonzalez, an auto mechanic in facilities and service enterprises, is the STAR of the Month for June.

"Armando is the Sherlock Holmes of auto mechanics," said Phil Evans, director of campus grounds, facilities and service enterprises. "He is highly experienced and skillful and can detect the most minute imperfections in automotive systems by ear and sight."

Gonzales is in charge of the maintenance of the more than 100 campus vehicles. He handles emergency road service, sometimes driving hundreds of miles to tow a vehicle. He also makes sure the campus trash collection tow bins are always operational.

"He works tirelessly and without let up to do whatever needs to be done," said Evans. "He overcomes all obstacles by willpower and creative fabrication of parts, frame braces or tools needed for the job."

Please join us in congratulating Armando and thank him for making such a difference.

As the STAR of the Month, Gonzalez will enjoy four free lunches on campus, a free parking pass or equivalent in one month's public transportation costs, and more. He will also be eligible for the STAR of the Year award.
