San Francisco resident honored during SFSU commencement

Nicole Marchelle Laurent of San Francisco was named the Class of 2000 hood recipient for San Francisco State University's College of Science and Engineering. Here, she is pictured with SFSU President Robert A. Corrigan, immediately following S.F. State's commencement ceremony Saturday, May 27. Every year one of the top students from each college is chosen to represent the college onstage during the ceremony and to receive a special hood on behalf of all of the students graduating from that college. L aurent earned her bachelor's degree in cell and molecular biology at SFSU. While putting herself through college, she earned an overall GPA of 3.93 and broke the all-time record for the highest score earned in one of the department's most rigorous courses. This fall, Nicole will enter a graduate program at George Washington University. Ultimately, she hopes to apply her skills as a forensic scientist to some of the country's most lingering and poignant mysteries-identifying the remains of unknown soldier s.
