Pleasant Hill resident receives top honors

Jennifer Gong Shiu of Pleasant Hill was named the hood recipient for San Francisco State University's College of Health and Human Services for the Class of 2000. She is pictured here with SFSU President Robert A. Corrigan immediately following S.F. State's commencement ceremony Saturday, May 27. Every year one of the top students from each college is chosen to represent the college onstage during the ceremony and to receive a special hood on behalf of all of the students graduating from that college. Shiu earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology at SFSU, excelled academically while maintaining a demanding schedule that included donating her free time to helping others through programs offered by local hospitals and churches. Accepted by a number of graduate physical therapy programs, Shiu is determined to combine her love of anatomy with her passion for helping others by studying to become a physical therapist.
