Unique photo essay on race comes to San Francisco Oct 8- Nov.17

San Francisco State University will co-sponsor a photo essay exhibit that examines the scientific mythology of race titled "All of Us Are Related, Each of Us is Unique" opening Oct. 8 at City College's Louise and Claude Rosenberg Jr. Library and Learning Resource Center, 50 Phelan Ave. at Ocean Ave. in San Francisco. The exhibit, which will be located on level 2, will be on display through Nov. 17. The exhibit's hours are Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is free. The exhibit also is sponsored by City College of San Francisco and the San Francisco Unified School District. For more information, call either (415) 239-3681 or (415) 338-1665.

City College will host the exhibit's opening program on Oct. 8 from 1-3 p.m. in the Diego Rivera Theater on the City College campus, 50 Phelan Dr. Featured speakers will include the exhibit's curator, Marshall Segall of Syracuse University, and Edgar Beckham of the Association of American Colleges and Universities. S.F. State discussion on education's response to race, hatred Oct. 15

In a related event, San Francisco State University, City College of San Francisco and the San Francisco Unified School District will sponsor a symposium on public education's response to race and hatred on Oct. 15 from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in S.F. State's Seven Hills Conference Center, 800 Font Blvd on the campus at 1600 Holloway Ave. In addition to experts and leaders from S.F. State, City College and the San Francisco schools, guest speakers will include Tomas Almaguer, director of the Center for Rese arch on Social Organization at the University of Michigan and Michael Omi, associate professor of Asian American Studies and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
