Media Advisory: SF State to host seminar on Cloud Computing in Life Sciences
Industry experts to discuss present, future of working in the cloud
SAN FRANCISCO, March 11, 2011 -- The Center for Computing for Life Sciences (CCLS) at San Francisco State University will host a seminar and panel discussion with industry leaders who will discuss the role and future of cloud computing in the life sciences. Cloud computing has grown in the life sciences as it has become a viable alternative platform and service for high performance computing. The panelists will describe the evolution of their experiences with cloud computing and how they are using the cloud today. Panelists will discuss criteria to consider when selecting cloud options, and case studies of cloud computing use. The event is free and open to the public.

The Center for Computing for Life Sciences at SF State allows faculty and students from the departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry to collaborate on multidisciplinary projects at the intersection of computing and life sciences. Students involved with the center perform research and receive training in skills critical for work in biotech and research and development.
