Media Advisory: AAAS Pacific Division scientific conference to meet Aug. 14 - 19 at SF State, California Academy of Sciences

 

WHAT:

The American Association for the Advancement of Science's Pacific Division will convene its 2009 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, bringing together scholars from the Western U.S. to share their work. Marking 150 years since publication of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, the 90th annual meeting will focus on sustainability in an evolving world.

Scientific session highlights include:

  • Sustainability as a way of life
  • The changing San Francisco Bay
  • Near-earth objects, featuring two former astronauts
  • Advances in pharmacology and toxicology: new drugs and novel therapies

The public is invited to attend free public lectures. Highlights include:

  • Shipwrecks as fossils
  • Ecological awareness in American landscape art
