SAN
FRANCISCO, December 1, 2006 -- San Francisco State University
invites its campus neighbors and other interested community members
to review its draft long-term master plan. The draft plan proposes
changes to buildings, green spaces, transportation routes and resources
needed to meet anticipated demands for access and a high-quality
university education through 2020.
Meetings will be held:
• 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Cesar Chavez Student Center,
San Francisco State University, 1650 Holloway Ave., San Francisco (in
the center of the main campus)
• 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, Meeting Room at Villas at Parkmerced Shops,
77 Cambon Drive, San Francisco (next door to Park Plaza Foods)
• 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 17, Auditorium Lobby, Lowell High School, 1101
Eucalyptus Drive, San Francisco
The University has received input on the planning process from the campus
community and its neighbors at five open houses, two scoping sessions
that gathered input for the environmental impact review process that
accompanies a master plan, and from comments e-mailed from the www.sfsumasterplan.org
Web site.
The December meetings offer interested parties the opportunity to discuss
and comment on the draft master plan. Comments will be received up to
30 days following the final open house and will be considered during
preparation of the final master plan. Preparation of a draft environmental
impact report (EIR) is in progress and the draft EIR will be opened for
public review for a period of 60 days. Upon receipt of public comments
on the draft EIR, a final master plan and EIR will be prepared and presented
to the CSU Board of Trustees for certification.

SF State Master Plan/Page 2
The last
SF State master plan was completed in 1989. Each campus in the 23-campus
California
State University system updates its master plan
periodically, evaluating the university’s physical resources to
ensure it can continue to meet its goals of providing access to a high-quality
higher education for every qualified Californian.
More details on the project are available on SF State’s master
plan Web site —www.sfsumasterplan.org/.
SF State is the only master’s-level public university serving the
counties of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin. The University enrolls
about 29,000 students each year and graduates about 7,000 annually. With
nationally acclaimed programs in a range of fields — from creative
writing, cinema and biology to history, broadcast and electronic communication
arts, theatre arts and ethnic studies — the University’s
more than 120,000 graduates have contributed to the economic, cultural
and civic fabric of San Francisco and beyond.
