Marin-based program offers hands-on exploration of the California coast and San Francisco Bay estuary aboard world-class research vessel

WHAT:
A mini-course that includes seven days of land-based introduction to the physical and biological oceanography of the Bay at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies, followed by a nine-day voyage aboard the tall ship and distinguished research vessel, Robert C. Seamans. Students will collect oceanographic data along the California coastline from San Francisco Bay to Los Angeles and learn to operate sophisticated research equipment while living, working and running the traditionally rigged sailing vessel.

WHO:
This program is offered through a partnership of San Francisco State University’s Tall Ship Education Academy and Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies, with the Sea Education Association.

WHEN:
August 1 -19, 2005

WHERE:
Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies and on the Pacific Ocean

HOW:
Recent juniors, seniors and high school graduates who have completed two years of lab science are eligible. Cost of $3,200 includes college course tuition, room and board during the voyage and return transportation from Los Angeles.
