Students honor Earth Day and invite community to hear from recycling experts, composting and bicycle repair workshops

WHAT:
The public is invited to an Earth Day celebration hosted by San Francisco State University students.

Among the activities are bicycle repair and composting workshops, lectures by experts in the recycling, reducing waste and reuse fields and free screenings of TV shows and films dealing with environmental issues.

WHY:
Landfills are filling up. The City and County of San Francisco has a goal of zero waste by 2020 and is currently diverting about 63 percent of its waste away from landfill through reuse and recycling. This is a chance to find out how it is being done.

WHO:
Organized and hosted by Environmental Studies students. Open to the general public.

WHEN:
10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, April 21, and Friday, April 22

WHERE:
The SFSU campus quad (near 19th Avenue and Holloway)
