Nearly 200 collegiate debate teams to argue energy consumption issues, policies

San Francisco State University will host the largest national collegiate policy debate tournament in the country, the 2005 Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) National Debate Tournament. Nearly 200 college and university debate teams are scheduled to compete in this four-day event.

This year's debate topic, determined annually by CEDA, the National Debate Tournament Committee and American Debate Association, has debaters forming arguments and rebuttals over whether or not the U.S. federal government should establish an energy policy to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.

Awards ceremonies will be held after the completion of the preliminary rounds and immediately after the final rounds. All awards focus on the academic and competitive excellence of individual students, debate team pairs, and college and university teams as a whole.
