Event at Serramonte Center gives students, parents a chance to learn about local colleges

SAN FRANCISCO, October 16, 2003 -- With budget cuts and enrollment pressures forcing many four-year universities and community colleges to close their application deadlines earlier than usual, San Francisco State University is helping students and parents with the selection process. The University is co-sponsoring the annual San Francisco/Northern Peninsula College Fair held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Serramonte Center Mall in Daly City.

Take a break from browsing the mall to speak to more than 70 representatives from the California State University system, University of California system, Bay Area community colleges, private California colleges, out-of-state universities and personnel from various military branches. Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese speakers also will be available to help with

The college fair revolves around the theme of “A Family Affair” and is a joint effort sponsored by the University, the South San Francisco Unified School District and Jefferson Union High School District.

The California budget crisis has forced some colleges to set the fall 2004 admission deadlines earlier than usual and as a result students are advised to start their college selection process soon. To increase their chances of being admitted, prospective SFSU freshmen and transfer students are strongly advised to submit applications for fall 2004 admission by Nov. 30. After that students run the risk of being turned away.
