College Fair on Oct. 30
San Francisco, Oct. 10, 2001 - Future college students: set aside your SAT prep book for an afternoon and head over to the mall where you can pick up information on public and private universities during the Third Annual San Francisco/Northern Peninsula College Fair on Tuesday, October 30 at Daly City's Serramonte Center.
This free fair runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and offers high school students tips on college entrance exams, assistance with financial aid applications, and previews of colleges from the Bay Area and across the country.
Representatives from the University of California and the California State University (CSU) systems, community colleges and private/independent colleges and universities nationwide will be available to answer questions from students and their parents. In addition, recruiters from the armed forces will be on hand to inform students about enlistment.
"Students will have the opportunity to browse for colleges and universities in a setting that lets them compare their choices for the future," said Jeannette McClendon, associate director of SFSU's Student Outreach Services.
Workshops held every half hour will instruct students on how to apply to the colleges and universities present, with specific information on what each school requires. Also scheduled are workshops on American College Testing, and loan and grant applications provided by SFSU's Financial Aid office.
The college fair sponsors include SFSU's Office of Student Outreach Services, South San Francisco Unified School District, Jefferson Union High School District and Serramonte Center. For more information about the college fair, contact Student Outreach at (415) 338-7168.
