SFSU to accept fall 2002 applications beginning Oct.1

Future students are given additional month to prepare admissions applications

SAN FRANCISCO, August 31, 2001 - San Francisco State University will accept fall 2002 admissions applications beginning Oct. 1, 2001, one month earlier than in previous years.

"We believe that choosing a university is an important yet challenging process that is a stepping stone to a successful career," said Jo Volkert, assistant vice president for enrollment planning and management. "By accepting applications one month earlier, prospective students are able to begin the selection process earlier, allowing them more time to make well-thought-out decisions on college."

SFSU will accept completed fall 2002 applications through next summer, 2002.

SFSU and other California State University (CSU) campuses will accept fall 2002 admissions applications beginning Oct. 1. The new date applies to all prospective students: incoming freshmen, transfer students, graduate students and international students.

The date was changed by the CSU to allow prospective students more time to select a university and accommodate the growing number of online applications.

Prospective students may apply online at www.csumentor or by filling out an application form. To request an application, call (415) 338-7238 or send an e-mail to outreach@sfsu.edu. Application forms will also be available at all high schools and community colleges in California.

One of the largest campuses in the 23-campus CSU system, SFSU was founded in 1899 and today is a highly diverse, comprehensive, public and urban university.
