Cesar Chavez Institute
Co-director of the Cesar Chavez Institute and Assistant Professor of Raza Studies Jeffrey Duncan-Andrade's paper, "Note to Educators: Hope Required When Growing Roses in Concrete," was published in the Education and the Obama Presidency issue of the Harvard Educational Review on July 1.

Associate Professor of Cinema Joseph McBride presented several talks on Frank Capra for a retrospective of the director’s early work at the Bologna (Italy) film festival, I Cinema Ritrovato ("The Cinema Rediscovered"), held June 27 to July 4.

Associate Professor of Cinema Britta Sjogren served as guest curator for "Into the Vortex: Female Voice in Film," held July 15 to Aug. 26 at the Pacific Film Archive at the University of California, Berkeley.

College of Creative Arts
"Charlie and Mama Kyna," a book by Diana Rumjahn, of the Creative Arts Technical Services, recently won the Best Short Story for Children Award at the 39th annual Marin County Fair.

Communication Studies
Communications Studies Professor Joe Tuman appeared on a community panel, "Politics, Religion and Discourse: A Conversation About Same-Sex Marriage," at Grace Cathedral on June 22.

International Business
Professor of International Business Joel Nicholson and Assistant Professor of International Business Lihua Wang co-authored the article, "Pay Systems in Chinese State-Owned Enterprises: A Review," in the journal Chinese Management Studies.

International Center for the Arts
The Generations Band, based in SF State’s International Center for the Arts, performed July 9-10 at the Jazz Standard in New York City.

Jewish Studies
Marc Dollinger, Goldman Chair in Jewish Studies, was named the 2009 Volunteer of the Year by the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation.

Raza Studies
Public Research Institute Interim Associate Director of Research and Assistant Professor of Raza Studies Belinda Reyes' report, "Preschool Enrollment among Latino Children in California," was published in the spring 2009 issue of Policy Research Brief.
