Art
Associate Professor and Interim Chair of Art Gail Dawson's artworks were featured in the "De-Mobbing: Landscape, Structure, Bioform" exhibition at the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts from Jan. 22 to March 4.

Cinema
Associate Professor of Cinema Joseph McBride, author of Writing in Pictures: Screenwriting Made (Mostly) Painless (Vantage Books), participated in book signings and discussions on Feb. 15 at Moe's Books in Berkeley and Feb. 21 at University Press Books in Berkeley. Professor of Cinema Jameson (Jim) Goldner served as interlocutor at the latter event.

A private screening of the film Behind the Curtain: Joseph McBride was held on March 1 at the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, Calif. McBride answered questions and signed books at the reception that followed. On March 4 the center screened The Apartment after which McBride also answered questions and signed books.

Labor Studies
Director and Associate Professor of Labor and Employment Studies John Logan spoke about "Unions and the New Economy" at the East Bay Express's annual Progressive Opportunities Conference on Feb. 26.

On Feb. 21 Logan spoke to a visiting delegation from Sweden at the UC Berkeley Institute for Research on Labor and Employment about the state of labor relations at Loomis US.

Library
Unit Head of Collection Acquisition Management Joan E. Borrelli's translations of Italian poems by Francesca Turini Bufalini (1553-1641) were featured in the 2011, Volume VI issue of Journal of Italian Translation (Brooklyn College/CUNY). The translations are accompanied by the original text, a profile of the author and a commentary on the translation process.

Recreation, Parks and Tourism Department
The Recreation, Parks and Tourism Department received the Award of Excellence at the California Parks and Recreation Society District IV Award Banquet Feb. 23. The award was for the Department’s Community Youth Sailing and Kayaking program. During the summer of 2011, more than 900 youth participated in the program; about 40 percent of whom were supported by scholarships reserved for lower income, at-risk or disabled youth.
