Make a difference
Professor of Kinesiology Susan Zieff commented for a May 17 San Francisco Chronicle report on the San Francisco Giants' planned "It Gets Better" video to counter homophobic behavior. "Professional sports is one of the last havens for homophobia," Zieff said. "A large number of fans are young people who look up to athletes as role models and there's a real potential to raise awareness about an issue that is bigger than sports."

Blooms for bees
The Lincoln Journal Star reported on May 14 that The Great Sunflower Project is looking for more "citizen scientists" to create pollinator habitats and help study bees. "Having healthy pollinators is important for both natural systems and our food supply," Associate Professor of Biology and project director Gretchen LeBuhn said. "All it takes are flowering plants that will bloom continuously throughout the summer."
