Helping Haiti
A Feb. 18 segment of the PBS NewsHour featured the efforts of Whirlwind Wheelchair to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Whirlwind Wheelchair founder Ralf Hotchkiss and his staff are working to send hundreds of Whirlwind's RoughRider wheelchairs to Haiti. The chairs are designed to navigate tough terrain -- mirroring the conditions on the ground following the earthquake. "We're having, so far, 350 chairs made in Vietnam and Mexico, and all sent to Haiti to be distributed to people, both with spinal cord injuries and with amputations, usually dual amputations, who absolutely have to get mobility soon, before it's too late," Hotchkiss said.
