Alicia Pierce
Dance Lecturer Alicia Pierce passed away Dec. 24 at the age of 57. Pierce graduated from SF State in 1974 and was then hired as a dance lecturer. She taught dance at SF State and City College of San Francisco for more than 30 years, specializing in the Dunham Technique, Jazz, Modern Jazz, and African-Haitian dance. In 1990 she earned a Master of Arts Degree from SF State.
  
"She was very firm and set high standards," Professor of Dance Albirda Rose said of Pierce. "She really helped people to reach their abilities as performers."

Pierce danced with the Wajumbe Dance Ensemble from 1970-83 regionally, nationally and internationally, and in several stage productions including the renowned production of "Evolution of the Blues." The University Dance Theatre concert on March 5-7 will be dedicated to Pierce.
