Gay and gray
The Bay Area Reporter quoted Associate Professor of Gerontology Brian De Vries in a Nov. 21 report on a recent conference on issues facing LGBT seniors. "Transgender issues themselves comprise gender identity and sexual orientation in ways that we often fail to accommodate," de Vries said, adding that a major issue is the "…active support against the rights of LGBT relationships… that compromise the health of LGBT people."

Big box protested
Associate Professor and Director of Labor Studies John Logan commented on the "Black Friday" protest by WalMart workers in a Beyond Chron opinion piece published Nov. 26. "Thousands of Wal-Mart workers and their allies protested for better wages, affordable healthcare benefits, full-time jobs and an end to management retaliation for speaking out in at least 100 cities… including locations not know for their activism," Logan wrote. "For the first time in its half-century history, Wal-Mart is facing significant labor strife… Whatever the outcome of the protests, Wal-Mart will never be the same company again."
