Biology
Associate Professor of Biology Kimberly Tanner is the 2011-12 winner of the Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teacher Award, given by the Society for College Science Teachers (SCST) to scholars who have enhanced the profession as outstanding teachers of science. SCST is a national organization established in 1979 to promote the scholarship of college science teaching.

Creative Writing
Creative Writing Lecturer Elizabeth Gjelten's play Hunter's Point was performed at the St. Boniface Church Theater in San Francisco from Sept. 16 to Oct. 1. Creative Arts Lecturer Eula Janeen Wyatt starred in the play.

Recreation, Parks and Tourism
Professor of Recreation, Parks and Tourism Patrick Tierney presented before the California Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports and Tourism on Sept. 23 about the importance of California State Parks and their connections with tourism in the state. He also provided information on alternatives to closing 70 state park units in the next 45 days.
