Recreation, Parks and Tourism
Chair of the Recreation, Parks and Tourism Department Patrick Tierney has co-authored the new book: "Recreation, Event and Tourism Businesses; Startup and Sustainable Operations" (Human Kinetics, 2008).

Tierney, who has finished a four-year term on the California Tourism Industry Board of Directors, moderated a panel titled "Green Communities: Green Consumers, Buildings and Operations" at the California Conference on Tourism in June.

Art
Professor of Art Lewis deSoto's "Paranirvana" is on display at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, Maine, through Jan. 25. 

Sociology
Jessica Fields, associate professor of sociology and research associate at the Center for Research on Gender and Sexuality, published the book "Risky Lessons: Sex Education and Social Inequality."

Psychology
Professor of Psychology Kathleen Mosier has been elected President of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society for fall 2009-10. She began a year as president-elect this month.

Political science
Professor of Political Science Gerard Heather delivered two lectures in the Netherlands. He spoke Sept. 17 at the Free University about the American presidential campaign and at the University of Amsterdam on Sept. 18.
