Georg Treichel
Professor Emeritus of Geography and Environmental Studies Georg Treichel passed away Sept. 22 at the age of 77. Despite a lifelong battle with polio, Treichel traveled to 138 countries and most of the 49 countries in Africa. An ecologist, Treichel served as the staff ecologist for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources where he helped establish the International Commission on National Parks and the World Wildlife Fund. Treichel led many SF State travel study field trips, making him a popular faculty member among students. In addition to his education work, Treichel earned "outstanding lecturer" awards from organizations including the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco and the San Diego Zoo.

Arthur Lloyd France
Professor Emeritus of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Arthur Lloyd France passed away Dec. 6 in Raleigh, N.C., at the age of 78. France graduated from Northwestern with a doctorate in education, later teaching at the University of Washington where he became the chair of the Radio, Film and Television Department before moving to San Francisco State. He retired in 1994.
