In Memoriam

Professor Emeritus of Design and Industry Frank Best of Yakima, Wash., died on Aug. 31 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. He was 85 years old.

Best was an assistant professor at San Francisco State for 26 years. He had been a vocational instructor for the Territory College of Guam, the Department of Education and George Washington High School, and consulted nationally and internationally as a vocational specialist in power, energy and transportation technology. He developed curricula and laboratory-based programs in history of technology, power and transportation, power and energy, and other areas. In April of 2003, Best was awarded the Distinguished Service Citation from Epsilon Pi Tau, the international honor society for professions in technology, which recognized his many professional accomplishments.

Best is survived by his wife, Evangeline; his two sons, Brett and Bart; four grandchildren; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
