when the newsletter resumes weekly publication. Items should
be submitted to pubnews@sfsu.edu by 5 p.m. of the Tuesday preceding
publication.

J. Paul Leonard Library is now offering research assistance (reference)
via instant message. The service is available whenever the Library
is open.

the Library's main Web page, users may click on "Ask a Librarian," type
their question into the search box, then hit "Enter" for

Construction on State Drive
A reminder to the campus community that a project to repave State
Drive is underway. During the construction period, access lanes
on State Drive will be limited. In addition, parallel parking
spaces on State Drive will be temporarily eliminated and spaces
in the parking garage will be limited. Please plan accordingly.

Ford
named associate dean for academic affairs
Barbara Ford is the new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College
of Education. Ford comes to the position with years of experience within
the College in Elementary Education and Africana Studies. "Dr. Ford
will be a valuable asset to our various educational endeavors, and to
the campus community at large," said Jacob Perea, dean of the School
of Education.
Students win CSU honors
The election for University-wide Search Committee members
for Dean of Undergraduate Studies will begin Wednesday, August 29 and conclude
on Friday, Sept. 7. Please check your e-mail for this important announcement
and voting procedures.
The nominees are: Matthias Beck, Mathematics; Shawn Whalen, Communication
Studies; Jassen Todorov, School of Music and Dance; Jaimes Guerrero,
Women Studies; Carmen Diego, Biology; Deborah vanDommelen, Learning Assistance
Center; Saul Steier, Humanities; Gary Pahl, Anthropology.
The Academic Senate will hold elections for the following committee
vacancies at its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Please contact the Senate
office if you are interested in running.
• All-University Committee on International Programs; statewide;
two-year term
• University Budget Committee; two vacancies; three-year term
Among this month's
Insiders are the election of Cristina Azocar, journalism, as president
of the Native American Journalists Association; selection of David Lee,
political science, for Harvard University's "Senior Executives
in State and Local Government " program; an honorary degree awarded
to Robert Corrigan, president, from Chung Yuan Christian University in
Taiwan.
