CampusMemo accepts submissions to the Insiders column from members of the campus community. Items must reflect faculty or staff achievements beyond the campus, e.g., papers/lectures given at professional meetings; appointments to boards; books/articles published; performances, exhibits, readings of works off campus; awards and honors, etc. Please submit items no more than six months old. Items are edited for space.

Creative Arts
Jo Tomalin, Theatre Arts, gave a presentation titled "Physicality and Performance" at the Guildhall of Music and Dramatic Arts held July in London. Tomalin also published an article titled "Reflection of Ecole Jacques Lecoq School of Theatre" in the fall issue of Association of Movement Educators.

A three-print collection titled "There to Eternity 1,2, & 3" by Barbara Foster, Art, was displayed at "The Mitigated Image" exhibit held Nov. 13 in Whitewater, Wisc.

Health and Human Services
Erik Peper, Holistic Healing Studies, published an article titled "A Teaching Strategy for Successful Hand Warming" in the fall issue of Somantics.

Patrick Tierney, Recreation and Leisure Studies, presented "Brochure Destitution Industry Characterization, Issues and Threats" and "Comparison of Effectiveness of Brochures Relative to Other Media" at the 2003 Association of Professional Brochure Distributors Conference held Oct. 14 in Limerick, Ireland.

Humanities
Lu Rehling, Technical and Professional Writing, gave a presentation titled "How External Reviewers Help Out" at the conference of the Council on Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication held in October. Rehling also presented "When Conversational Styles Collide: Bringing Awareness to Problem-Solving Team Talk and Listening" at the October conference of the Association for Business Communication.

"Pinball" and "Cherry Blossom Time," two poems by Toni Mirosevich, Creative Writing, were published in the fall issue of Modern Words. Mirosevich's "Happy Hours" was published in the fall issue of The Malahat Review.

Chris Wen-Chao Li, Foreign Languages and Literatures, gave a presentation titled "Phonetic Detail in the Tteaching of Mandarin Pronunciation" at the spring Conference of the Chinese Language Teachers Association of California held May 3 at Stanford University. Li also published his article "What is a 'Standard Accent' in Mandarin – Difference Between Prescriptive and de facto Norms" in the June issue of Tamkiang Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Science and Engineering
Thomas Parker
, Biology, M.Vacey and others presented "Morphological Evidence for Diploid Hybrid Origin of Arctostaphylos gabilanensis," at the Plant Speciation Symposium, held in June in Canada.

Wenshen Pong, C.S. Tsai and others published "Verification of Lateral Force Distributions for Based-Isolated Structures Including Higher Mode Effects" in the Proceedings of the 2003 American Society for Mechanical Engineers Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference. The conference was held in July in Cleveland, Ohio.
