Special announcement regarding Vice President Morishita

Note: The following e-mail was sent on 4/18/11 to all faculty and staff.

Dear colleague:

It is with very mixed emotions that I inform you that Executive Vice President Leroy Morishita, has been named interim president of California State University, East Bay. He will take the helm of our neighbor campus on July 1.

On a personal level, I couldn’t be more pleased since this is an excellent opportunity for Dr. Morishita, and one that he clearly deserves. As executive vice president and chief financial officer at SF State, he has proven himself an exceptional leader in the areas of fiscal affairs, capital planning, facilities enterprises, human resources, information technology and housing. He has had an impact on virtually every area of University life, including the academic program. He personally led and won support for two of the most significant initiatives in SF State's recent history: a property acquisition program that has enlarged our footprint and transformed student life, and development of a physical master plan that was shaped with the academic program foremost in mind. As president, I see this move as a great loss for the campus—he will be greatly missed.

Dr. Morishita is a rare combination of visionary and pragmatist—qualities that will serve him well as East Bay's leader, and qualities very much in demand during this most challenging time for public higher education in California.

We intend a national search for vice president of administration and finance, and will announce details and transition plans at a later date.

Please join me in wishing Dr. Morishita all the best as he undertakes this next step in his exceptional career.

--Robert A. Corrigan, president
