Campus mourns for Virginia Tech

April 16, 2007

The poet John Donne said it best: "No man is an island." The terrible tragedy at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) has resonated in hearts across the nation. It strikes especially strongly in the world of higher education, and here at SF State, our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims, as well as to the entire Virginia Tech community. We know that no expression of sympathy can ease such sorrow, but we do want a grieving campus to know that we are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers. To all on our campus, I would suggest that some time in the course of the day, as we go about our business, we pause for a personal moment of silence, meditation and condolence. In such heart-wrenching times, we must remember that we are truly one community.
