SF State named a top college for minorities

June 27, 2011 -- SF State has made Diverse magazine's Top 100 list of colleges for minority students. Within the Top 100 list, SF State ranked 14th in the nation for the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to students of color.

SF State came out as one of the top destinations nationwide for Asian Americans, Hispanics and American Indians. The University ranked:

  • 8th for the number of bachelor's degrees granted to Asian Americans
  • 28th for the number of bachelor's degrees granted to Hispanics
  • 73rd for the number of bachelor's degrees granted to American Indians

The University was also highly ranked for the number of minority students earning bachelor's degrees in specific academic disciplines, including biological sciences, business, management and marketing, social sciences and education.

Among the 23 California State University (CSU) campuses, SF State was the highest ranked campus for the number of degrees granted to Asian Americans and the number of biological science degrees awarded to minorities. SF State ranked among the top ten CSU campuses for the total number of degrees awarded to minorities, the number of degrees awarded to Hispanics and the number of degrees awarded to minorities in the areas of business, education and social sciences.

The survey is based on graduation data from academic year 2009-10, and was published in the June 9 issue of Diverse Issues in Higher Education. Full details of the rankings can be found at:
