SF State Responds: Earthquake in Japan

-- The University extends its concern and support to our family members, friends and colleagues in Japan, who are recovering from an earthquake of 8.9 magnitude. Please check this page for updates on how you, as a member of our community, can help in the relief efforts.

March 16, 2011: The School of Social Work is collecting donations from the campus community to aid in the relief efforts in Japan.  Anyone wishing to make a donation should make their check out to "Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (or JCCCNC)" and specify the "Japan Earthquake Relief Fund." Send checks to Professor Yeon-Shim Lee's mailbox in HSS 227 or Lee's office (HHS 216) no later than 5 p.m. April 4. E-mail Lee or call (415) 405-0944 with any questions.

March 11, 2011: At this point in time -- 8:20 a.m. Friday, March 11 -- some areas of San Mateo county and the Great Highway along San Francisco's Ocean Beach have been closed, as precautions in the event of a tsunami.

The University is open for business as usual, and all classes are in session.

A tragedy of such magnitude is bound to have an impact on the University community in many ways.

We urge our international students who may need help in contacting family in affected areas to work closely with counselors and staff in the Office of International Programs to support you at this time.

And, as always in the case of a tragedy that affects members of our community, we urge those struggling with the event to contact Counseling and Psychological Services for assistance, at (415) 338-2208.
