SF State students headline Media Arts Festival

Nov. 22, 2011 -- SF State Broadcasting and Electronic Communication Arts (BECA) students took home top honors at the 2011 California State University Media Arts Festival held at CSU Fullerton on Nov. 12.

“Savzilla,” a music video by Jay Vera, took the festival’s best in show prize of $1,000 and the $500 first place in the music video competition. Vera partnered with James Martinez to take the first place $500 prize in the television category with their video documentary, “The Barber of Seville.” Ashley Larson finished second in the category with “Tough Choices: An Investigative Look at Teen Pregnancy.”

Karyn Barnett’s screenplay “Pros & Cons” earned second place in the feature screenplay competition. Ashley Lindner came in third in the documentary competition with “The Forgotten Landmark: Sutro Baths.” David Hasselfeld came in fifth in the Short Screenplay category with “Thirsty?”

The three first-place finishers also brought home three $500 Rosebud Awards for BECA. For a complete list of finalists and winners visit the festival’s website.
