The MBA program was ranked 13th in the U.S. and 16th in world by the Aspen Institute's Beyond Grey Pinstripes survey, which was released this week.

The survey recognizes business schools that teach MBA students about the broader impact of business rather than simply focusing on the bottom line. Conducted biennially, the 2011-2012 survey included 149 MBA programs from 22 countries.

"This wonderful recognition reflects the faculty's commitment to integrating sustainability into all that we do in the College of Business," said Caran Colvin, interim dean of the College of Business. "This commitment aligns us with the University's mission of promoting social justice."

SF State received high marks for the number of teaching hours and student enrollment in courses that focus on social and environmental content as well as courses that specifically address the role of mainstream business in improving social and environmental conditions.

SF State climbed the rankings this year, moving up from 23rd place nationally and 29th in the world in 2009, and 27th place nationally and 37th in the world in 2007.  It was the only California State University campus to be listed in the top 100 list of MBA programs.

The College of Business will continue its emphasis on social responsibility during the sixth annual Business Ethics Week Oct. 31 – Nov. 4., when speaker events and classes throughout the college will focus on ethics, sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
