Brown and Schwab talk business, leadership

March 10, 2008 -- Former Mayor Willie Brown and Charles Schwab, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Charles Schwab Corporation, discussed leadership, business and the economy during the "Willie Talks to Chuck" event at the Downtown Campus on March 4.

A capacity crowd listened as the pair discussed the birth of Schwab's company from a small office on San Francisco's Montgomery Street to one of the world's largest discount brokers. Schwab noted during the conversation that good leaders delegate to those who have strengths in areas different from their own. Schwab also offered a theory as to why his company has been able to weather the turbulent economy. "We decided that you shouldn't lend money to people who can't pay you back," he said. The event was sponsored by the College of Business and the Willie L. Brown Jr. Leadership Center. Photo by Peter Prato.
