University unveils Web redesign

February 8, 2008 -- SF State today rolled out a new Web design template that will provide a visually appealing and unifying design for the University's colleges and departments.

The new template provides unified elements to identify official University Web pages, with options that allow college and departmental sites to have a unique look and feel. It features consistent navigation at the top and bottom of each page, with links to frequently used tools such as search, a consolidated login page, and the handy A-Z index. A unified 3-column structure promotes consistent, user-friendly page navigation across the family of University Web sites, ensuring users can find key navigation at left, main content at page center and related content and links in a third-column sidebar.

The template also is compliant with SF State Web accessibility guidelines and will help speed and enhance compliance with California State University requirements.

The redesign is the culmination of a more than year-long project by University Communications, Division of Information Technology and the Disability Programs and Resource Center to improve the appearance, functionality and accessibility of Web pages that represent the University and its programs. More than three-dozen college and department representatives throughout the University contributed insights, feedback and testing throughout the process.

Colleges and departments will introduce the new look on a rolling basis, as redesigned pages are introduced or revised. The University homepage will feature the new look in several weeks.

For guidelines on template use, and to download the template for application to University Web sites, visit  the SF State Web Template Guidlines Web Site or e-mail the SF State Web team at webteam@sfsu.edu.
