October 14, 2008 -- Five graduate students, selected as the first recipients of the Provost Scholars Award, were honored at a luncheon hosted by Provost John Gemello on Oct. 13 in the Vista Room. The award provides exceptional out-of-state and international students with a waiver of non-resident tuition.

Three of the five students are from out-of-state: Melinda McGuire from Cedar City, Utah, is pursuing a master's in history; Gwendolyn Tatro from Islesboro, Maine, is pursuing a master's in fine arts; and Ryan Yao from Yorkville, Ill., is pursuing a master's in museum studies. Two international students, Laura Escobar of Colombia and Jinyu Xia from China, are graduate students in mathematics and business administration, respectively.
