San
Francisco State has officially opened the doors to its new Downtown Campus
at 835 Market St., home to the University’s College of Business
graduate programs and College of Extended Learning.
Located in the office building of the Westfield San Francisco Centre, the Downtown Campus is a short elevator ride above one of Northern California’s newest and most exciting destinations. "For more than a century, SF State has reflected the forward-thinking vitality and intellectual capital of this city," President Robert A. Corrigan said. "With our new Downtown Campus, we are perfectly located to expand our central role in the development of the Bay Area's work force, contributing to job creation, economic vitality and quality of life. We believe that this is indeed a smart move -- one that will help us take San Francisco into a strong and vibrant future." The entire sixth floor and a portion of the fifth floor of Westfield's office building will house SF State activities and programs related to business, continuing education and community outreach. The University's Institute for Next Generation Internet, a catalyst for driving digital-media education and economic development is among them. Classrooms and computer labs are configured around a vertical, glass-enclosed atrium that offers breathtaking views in all directions -- above to the ceiling of the historic skylit dome that is Westfield San Francisco Centre's focal point, across to the adjoining classrooms, and below to the shopping activity on the fourth floor. The Downtown Campus will serve 7,500 to 10,000 students. Visit the Downtown Campus Web site for more information. -- Adrianne Bee
