Beginning Monday Oct. 1, the SF State shuttle between the campus and the Daly City BART station will make fewer stops, resulting in quicker trips. The shuttle will stop only at University Park North on Buckingham Way near Winston Drive, and at the front of the campus on 19th Avenue near Holloway. Eliminated stops are Lot 25 on Winston Drive, Lakeview at North State Drive, J. Paul Leonard Library, Tapia Drive and Mary Ward and Mary Park residence halls.

SF State shuttle hours will remain unchanged: Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The new schedule is in response to concerns that the wait time for shuttles was getting intolerable and that an average trip between the campus and BART was twice as long as it should be.

"We want to provide the best service possible," said Patricia Tolar, administrative analyst with the University's Parking and Transportation department. "The free shuttle service's waiting time has steadily increased over the years. During peak hours the waiting time for a shuttle can be 35 to 40 minutes."

Tolar acknowledges that the change will result in longer lines at the 19th Avenue stop in front of the campus. However, the elimination of other stops should allow the shuttles to stop there more frequently, so the lines should move faster. The campus community will also have the option of taking the MUNI 28 shuttle to BART, which is free with the round-trip voucher available at the Daly City BART station.

Tolar emphasized that SF State's shuttle was always intended to supplement public transit, not provide a means to get from one place on campus to another.

Persons with disabilities can continue to request rides across campus through the Disability Programs and Resource Center.
