A Closer Look: 'Essentia' at Student Center Gallery

Image of an untitled painting by Jenny E. Balisle

An untitled work by Jenny E. Balisle conveys the multi-dimensionality of her "non-representational" paintings now on display in the Cesar Chavez Student Center Art Gallery exhibit "Essentia: Tactility of the Soul." West Oakland artist Balisle uses a variety of tools and methods -- including spatulas, nail polish and her hands -- to add many layers to her colorful, textured paintings. "Essentia" can be viewed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays in the Student Center Art Gallery. The exhibit runs through Friday, Feb. 25.
