SFSU has set May 1 as the deadline for prospective undergraduate students to submit their applications for fall 2003 admission.

Due to an anticipated increase in enrollment and uncertainty of the University's budget relating to California's fiscal crisis, SFSU established the earlier deadline. This ensures that the University does not admit more students than it can adequately serve, said Jo Volkert, associate vice president for enrollment planning and management.

SFSU's enrollment was 28,378 last fall, an increase of 5.6 percent over fall 2001 and the University's largest in more than a decade. SFSU's enrollment this semester is 27,871.

To receive an admissions decision more quickly, prospective students are encouraged to apply online. Online applications must be completed and submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. today, Thursday, May 1.

For details on SFSU admissions, majors and degree programs, costs, financial aid, on-campus housing and student life, visit the prospective students Web site or call (415) 338-2355. To request an application form, call (415) 338-7238 or send an e-mail to: outreach@sfsu.edu.

Prospective students interested in on-campus housing are encouraged to submit a housing application before being admitted to SFSU, as space is limited and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For details, call (415) 338-1067 or visit the Housing and Residential Services Web site.

Continuing SFSU students and those admitted for fall 2003 may also take classes in the Summer Semester. Matriculated students pay the regular fees during summer and can be eligible for financial aid. For details, visit the Summer Semester Web site or call (415) 338-3000.

The deadline for graduate applications for fall 2003 remains unchanged at Thursday, May 15. However, certain graduate programs have earlier deadlines and require an additional application. For details, visit the Division of Graduate Studies Web site or call (415) 338-2234.
