December 12, 2002 The SFSU Chamber Singers will spread a little holiday magic Friday, with their annual Candlelight Christmas performance. The 8 p.m. performance, at Most Holy Redeemer Church at 18th and Diamond streets, will feature parts of the Magnificat by Vivaldi and Bach, as well as some traditional spirituals and holiday selections by John Rutter, Mendelssohn and Bob Moore. The recently renovated church has been the setting for this performance for the past few years, according to conductor Joshua Habermann. “This is a more intimate setting for a specifically Christmas program,” said Habermann, who has been with the university for six years. “The church is gorgeous, the interior is recently renovated, and it has nice acoustics. It’s a very beautiful setting.” The Chamber Singers are one of San Francisco State University’s most accomplished musical groups, performing locally as well as internationally, with a recent trip to Cuba and touring engagements in China in 2000. The group has released two CDs, and plans to tour California and the Pacific Northwest in the spring. Most Holy Redeemer Church is located at 100 Diamond Street. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for students and seniors. For more information, call (415) 338-7761.
