March 4, 2002 SFSU will celebrate Peace Corps Week with four days of informative seminars on opportunities with the overseas aid organization, including an International Women's Week discussion with former recruits and a panel on incorporating the volunteer experience into a career. This year's event is expected to draw a large audience with President Bush's vow to double the number of Peace Corps recruits. Since Bush's mention in the State of the Union address, there has been a 39 percent rise in Peace Corps information seekers. On campus, Peace Corps information meeting attendance had risen prior to the Bush's rallying call due to an increased international welfare interest during the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. SFSU recruits more Peace Corps volunteers than any other non-Ph.D. granting university in the country.
