The graduate program in composition is a two-year course of study leading to a Master of Arts degree. It is designed to prepare the student for a professional career in composition and/or university-level teaching, and provides an excellent foundation for doctoral study. The curriculum includes private composition lessons during each semester of residency, course work in a variety of theory topics including tonal and post-tonal analysis, and courses in musicology. Professional and student performance opportunities are available. Applicants must submit all application materials by April 1 for entry the following fall, and must apply to both the Music Department and the University.
