Herb Bielawa

Composer, SFSU Professor Emeritus

Herb Bielawa was Professor of Music from 1966 to 1991, teaching composition, music theory, orchestration, and counterpoint. While at SFSU, he created the electronic music studio, computer-assisted Music Theory laboratory, and Pro Musica Nova (new music ensemble).

Professor Bielawa produced concerts each devoted to contemporary music of different countries - Poland - Italy - Hungary. Together with Gareth Loy he produced a series of electronic music concerts and listening events in the 70's called New Media Invitationals. Further, he created several new courses in electronic music and designed the curriculum for electronic music emphasis.
