Abstract Interview, observation, & focus group data are used to qualitatively examine the social support networks of 27 working mothers from diverse socioeconomic strata in one neighborhood in Beijing, People s Republic of China. A grounded theory of Chinese social support networks is developed, & it is concluded that such networks are communal in nature & differ from Western networks, which are personal in nature. Implications for social work practice are presented. 10 References. Adapted from the source document
