Abstract Examines the economic status of 50 racial and ethnic groups as revealed in 1980 census data. Vietnamese and Puerto Ricans were the most impoverished, followed by blacks, MexicanAmericans, and Native Americans. Among native-born men, blacks have the lowest earnings.
