Abstract Examines the history of the Olympic Project for Human Rights and its failed boycott of the 1968 Olympic Games in the wider context of political significance, social order, and cultural protest. The author considersthe social roots and the limitations of racial resistance through sport, and argues that any contemporary study of race and ethnicity should take into account aspects of identity, culture, and popular culture.
