Abstract |
Describes the 1962 founding at Columbia University of the American Negro Leadership Conference on Africa (ANLCA) and traces the organization s origins in the work of a number of advocacy groups dedicated toAfrican issues throughout the 1940 s and 1950 s. The author also describes the ANLCA s pursuit of policy initiatives in 1962 and 1963, its ties to major civil rights groups, and the internal conflicts and leadershipproblems that led to the organization s demise by 1968.
