Abstract Part of a special issue on the challenges Latino elders will present for the field of gerontology in the 21st century. The writers examine social policy and the politics of Hispanic aging. They contend that the participation of Hispanic elders in political events suggests an emerging politics of aging in the Hispanic community that may influence social welfare and social policy. They examine voting and other means of political participation by Hispanic elders, and they discuss some implications for social policy and a politics of aging in the Hispanic community.
