Abstract |
Behavioral health systems nationwide are rapidly moving toward more cost-effective and least restrictive alternatives for acute inpatient care. In California, Medi-Cal has adopted stricter acuity guidelines that result in non-reimbursed, custodial, or partially reimbursed days, called C Days for the purposes of this article. This article identifies system and patient variables that impact length of stay and makes system and treatment recommendations to effectively manage these issues to reduce or eliminate inpatient non-acute and unpaid patient stays.
